The party season is upon us so you will be getting out the occasion wear and glamming up. Whilst you are busy choosing the right clothes and accessories, make sure you get the foundations right by choosing the best underwear for your shape and your outfit too.
Here are some tips for your party wear underwear:
1. You should have a reasonable selection of underwear to suit different outfits.
2. Underwear should coordinate with the colours of your outer garments and should not be seen unless you’re making a fashion statement.
3. Take care with over-decorated underwear, it will show through close fitting garments
4. Remember: what may look fun and sexy may not give you the right support or shape.
Bras.
A bra is an important investment and should provide essential support as well as the right shape for you and for the clothes you are wearing. The first rule, if you haven’t done it already, is to have a bra fitting to make sure you are wearing the right size. In terms of choosing the right bra for your outfit, think about the fabric of the item you are wearing and the neckline.
Full cup bra – This is designed to give you full support. You need this shape for high neck tops.
Push up – This lifts the bust for a perfect cleavage for deep V-necks.
Balconette bras – This gives you uplift and works with wide, low-cut tops. Make sure that the straps are placed far enough apart so as not to show.
Strapless – Full supporting strapless bras must be worn with strapless evening wear.
Padded – This will enhance a small bust and give it a slight lift.
Minimizer – This redistributes the breast so that it does not protrude as much.
Knickers
Your choice of knickers will depend on your size, the comfort you want and the shape and firmness of your bottom. There is no excuse for a VPL! Tight knickers under snug-fitting clothes will make you look bigger. Whatever you are wearing, make sure your knickers give you the coverage, comfort and support you need. With so much choice available you should be able to find a cut and fit that’s right for you.
Thong/g-string – The traditional way to banish the VPL. For slim, pert bottoms only.
Briefs – These can be worn with most clothes, just make sure the elastic doesn’t cut into your flesh and there are no bulges.
Shorties/boxers – These are good for avoiding the VPL and more comfortable than thongs for larger bottoms. Best for trousers, you don’t want to reveal them above the waist of your skirt.
French knickers – These are a loose, comfortable and feminine cut with no control. Perfect under full skirts and dresses.
Tummy control – Available in different sizes from brief to full knickers. Make sure the fit is good and that your flesh doesn’t roll over the top when you sit down.
Magic knickers – So-called because they control the thighs, lift the bottom, flatten the tummy and give you a waist. Good for fitted garments. Make sure you can breathe when wearing them!
Body shapers – An ‘all-in-one’ will support and enhance your bust, while flattering your stomach and firming your bottom. This is a great choice for when you want a smooth silhouette.
