Style Tips
Just as a company needs a rebrand from time to time, we also need to rebrand ourselves at various stages of our lives.
Before you even think about updating your wardrobe, you need to update your mindset. In her article in The Times last October, Carolyn Asome wrote: “Funny, isn’t it, given that we spend more than a third of our lives at the office, that we often succumb to any old “meh” outfit to wear to work? And yet too often we’re happy to have a blow-out on a party dress that, when you consider its cost-per-wear ratio, makes no sense at all”.
Last week the Duchess turned 31 and the media revisited her most stylish looks. Like her Grandmother-in-law, she is not afraid of colour and knows how to wear it well. In the UK Vogue, February issue, Kate’s colours are reviewed and the statistics show us that she knows what works for her best.
The holiday festivities are over and without the social occasions and shiny lights to jolly you along, those New Year’s resolutions can look a little harsh in the cold light of January. To make sure you kick start that ‘new you’/new career/fitness regime (whatever your goal may be) into action, you need to begin by giving yourself a fabulous confidence boost.
The party season is upon us so you will be getting out the occasion wear and glamming up. Whilst you are busy choosing the right clothes and accessories, make sure you get the foundations right by choosing the best underwear for your shape and your outfit too.
Unless you have the time and money, or you work in the fashion industry, it is neither easy nor necessarily satisfying to keep up with the very latest trends. Fashion is about being up-to-the-minute current, or even ahead of the times.
One thing to like about winter is putting on a gorgeous pair of boots. Casual or smart, short or long, there is something almost reassuring about boots. Perhaps it is because they are both stylish and sturdy.
‘Old is the new Young’ The Times reported in their ‘grey best-dressed list 2012’ published last week. The list includes Vivienne Westwood (71), Bill Nighy (62), Helen Mirren (67) and Sir Stuart Rose (63), among many others.
It’s great to embrace our heritage and wear it on our sleeve, but let’s be honest, tweeds and checks are not the easiest patterns to pull off.
We’ve been discussing in the office today how early morning TV presenters manage to look great ‘at the crackers’ (to put it in our director’s vernacular!). The styles they choose are significant, but we think their success is mostly down to wearing good colours.
What a summer it has been so far! Despite the weather we’ve had a wonderful season of celebrations with the Diamond Jubilee and the London Olympics. The last two weeks have been hugely inspirational, well done to all the incredible athletes and all those involved. We couldn’t help enjoy the array of colours on show through the games; the pink, the orange and the purple of the Olympics were bold and beautiful (naturally we love the purple as it is our very own Colour Me Beautiful brand colour!)
Something exciting has happened at Barbour. Much like Burberry, they have taken a great piece of British heritage wear and given it a modern and stylish update. First of all we say hats off (and jackets on!) to this brand for its longevity.
